Walt Disney Studios has completely taken over Hollywood and is showing no signs of letting up. In 2019 Disney has posted a ton of movies scheduled to be released from 2020-2027. While a bunch of these movies is untitled and a mystery, we do have 15 movies with release dates that have us super excited.
Pixar’s Onward - March 6, 2020
Onward is coming out in a few weeks after the release of this article. Starring Chris Pratt, Tom Holland, and Octavia Spencer. This magical adventure is about two brothers who are on a quest to bring back their father for only one day.
Disney’s Mulan - March 27, 2020
The classic 1998 movie remake is a live-action phenomenon. This live-action is set to be a lot truer to the original poem The Ballad of Hua. Mulan, starring international actress Liu Yife, is a disguised warrior who saved China.
Marvel’s Black Widow - May 1, 2020
Natasha Rominoff is set to kick off phase 4 of the MCU as we discover the origins of the Black Widow. Finding out what life was like for her between Civil War and Infinity War. Black Widow died in Avengers: Endgame, so it’ll be interesting to see how they kick off phase 4.
Disney’s Artemis Fowl - May 29. 2020
Based on the classic novel, Artemis Fowl, this movie follows the journey of the titular character. Who sets off on an adventure to find his dad who mysteriously disappeared. The movie stars Ferdia Shaw.
Pixar’s Soul - June 19, 2020
Soul will be the latest Pixar masterpiece to graze the big screen. We follow the journey of Joe Gardner, a middle school teacher who has an accident. This causes his soul to separated from his body which requires him to undergo soul training at the “you seminar.” Needing to develop and gain passion before being passed to a newborn. Jamie Foxx is starring as Joe Gardner.
Disney’s Jungle Cruise - July 24. 2020
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Emily Blunt star in the adventures of the Jungle Cruise. We follow the journey of Frank, as he takes a scientist and her brother to the tree of life.
Disney’s The One and Only Ivan - August 14
All about a gorilla named Ivan, who lives in a mall and cares for a new baby elephant named Ruby. Ivan, along with an older elephant and the janitor’s daughter, strives to turn things around at the mall. Starring some big names like Angelina Jolie and Danny Devito.
Marvel’s The Eternals - November 6
This movie picks up after Avengers: Endgame as the Eternals come together to protect humanity from the deviants. Additionally, it is also set to have the MCU’s first gay character. Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Gemma Chan, Brian Tyree Henry, are just some set to star in this movie.
Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings - February 12
While we do not know much plot-wise about the movie, Shang-Chi will reintroduce (or introduce depending on how you look at it) to the villain the Mandarin. Simu Liu will play Shang Chi and Tony Leung will portray the Mandarin.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – May 7
Benedict Cumberbatch is reprising his role as the master of the mystic arts. While Scott Derrickson was supposed to direct the project, he instead took an executive producing role. Sami Raimi (who also directed the first Spider-Man trilogy) is in negotiations to direct this. Elizabeth Olsen is also set to reprise her role as the Scarlet Witch/Wanda Maximoff, as this movie will tie directly with the Disney+ shows WandaVision and Loki.
Disney’s Cruella – May 28
Emma Stone will play the iconic Disney villain in this live-action remake. All about a criminal who was obsessed with furs, especially from dalmatians. The story will take place in London during the 1970s.
Untitled Indiana Jones 5 - July 9
Many details for the 5th installment are unknown other than it is going to be directed by Stephen Spielberg and starring Harrison Ford.
Disney Presents: Hamilton An American Musical – October 15
Disney won the bidding war for Lin Manuel Miranda’s masterpiece, reportedly paying over $75 million. Disney will release the taping of the original Hamilton performance.
Marvel’s Thor Love and Thunder - November 5
Taika Waititi is back to write and direct the fourth installment of the Thor franchise. Chris Hemsworth will reprise his role. Back with him is Natalie Portman’s character Jane Foster. She is set to become the Mighty Thor in this new installment.
Marvel’s Black Panther 2 - February 18
Almost nothing for the sequel is confirmed other than Ryan Coogler is back to direct it, and it officially has a release date.
